InDesign's warning when using Import PDF Comments, reproduced with the wording of the English interface.

Yes: you can repair the connection and recover the review's comments.

Insert My Comments (IMC) repairs the PDF with comments and lets you first download a free check PDF. You use Import PDF Comments again in your own InDesign and verify whether the review imports correctly. If it works, you pay 5,99 € and download the full repaired PDF, with your original comments intact.

Real repair → real test in InDesign → payment only if it works.

Test the repair in your InDesign

First download a check PDF and use Import PDF Comments again. If the review imports correctly, you know the repair works.

Repair and check for free

You don't pay until you've checked it works. Only then, 5,99 € for the full repaired PDF.

What you need

  • The PDF with comments that holds the review and was originally exported from your .indd document.
  • A new, clean PDF, freshly exported from that same .indd document.

You don't have to upload your InDesign file. IMC works only with the two PDFs.

What happens next

  1. You upload the two PDFs. IMC uses the new export as a reference to recover the commented PDF's connection.
  2. The real repair is generated. The full repaired PDF is prepared and sealed; the free check copy is created from that same file.
  3. You download the check PDF for free. It keeps the number, the type and the location of the comments so you can test the import, but replaces with test text the corrections' content that would have use value. This way you verify InDesign imports the review without receiving the usable version yet.
  4. If the test works, you pay 5,99 €. Then you download the full repaired PDF, with the review's original content.

What exactly broke?

The PDF may open normally and keep its comments, but InDesign has stopped recognising it as an export of the correct .indd document. IMC takes a new export of that same document as a reference and rebuilds in the commented PDF the metadata, identifiers and internal structures InDesign uses to recognise its origin, keeping the annotations.

If the check fails, you don't pay.

If InDesign still won't import the review with the check PDF, you don't pay the 5,99 €.

Check first. Pay only afterwards.

Check the import for free in your InDesign. If it works, download the full repaired PDF for 5,99 €.
