Application to the source document
Import your comments directly in InDesign
You have a commented PDF and its InDesign document, but you don't have InDesign, don't have it at hand, work from another computer or would rather delegate the import. In professional environments you may also need to repeat the operation over many documents.
Coming soon This journey is planned
It can't be purchased yet and has no published price. Its card exists in the tool, appears disabled and labelled "Coming soon", and this page explains what it will do when available. We promise no date.
What's failing
InDesign has its own native mechanism to return the PDF's comments to the original document, but using it normally requires having the program and running the import document by document. It's a barrier for whoever doesn't have InDesign available and a repetitive task when the file volume grows.
What IMC will do
Upload the commented PDF and its InDesign document so IMC runs the import through InDesign's own native route, verifies the result and returns the processed document together with clear information on how the operation ended.
One-off use
Commented PDF + INDD → automated native import → INDD with the comments imported + report
Professional use
50 PDFs + 50 INDDs → batch processing → resulting documents + joint incident report
How far it will go
- This route uses InDesign's native mechanism and depends on the PDF and the document keeping the correspondence that mechanism needs.
- If the connection broke or the versions changed, you'll first need to diagnose, repair, transplant comments or compare versions.
- We don't promise that any PDF + INDD pair can be imported correctly.
Your files
Unlike an import you run on your own computer, this journey requires sending the commented PDF and the InDesign document to a remote environment able to run InDesign. Which provider takes part, where the files are processed, how long they are kept and how they are deleted will be published here before the journey is available. We don't take it as solved.
Meanwhile, there are journeys available
We'll open "Your editorial process" in the InDesign context, with this card highlighted and the alternatives in view. We select nothing that can't be purchased.
