Application to the source document
Click a comment. IMC takes you to its place in the source document
You have the reviewed PDF and the source document that must be corrected. Without a dedicated route, the work happens across two open windows: locate the comment, copy the text, switch windows, search with Ctrl+F, check whether it's the right match, go back and repeat.
What's failing
Carrying the corrections from the PDF to the source is still, in many editorial flows, manual and repetitive work. And searching isn't always enough: a word, a conjunction or a number can appear hundreds of times; the text extracted from the PDF can arrive split by hyphens or line breaks; and the source document may have changed since the proof was generated. Finding a match doesn't mean having found the right place.
What IMC does
It turns the PDF and the source into a synchronised worktable. When you select a comment, IMC finds and shows its correspondence in the source document, uses text and context to resolve the location and prepares the change for you to review before applying it.
- Click the comment in the PDF.
- IMC lands on the corresponding place in the source document.
- It shows the proposal and the evidence it decided with.
- You accept, adjust, skip or solve it by hand.
- Next comment.
When the fragment appears twenty times
Manual work
copy → switch window → Ctrl+F → check candidates → go back → apply → repeat
With the IMC workspace
click → location with context → proposal → accept, adjust or skip → next
If the fragment appears only once, the path is direct. If it appears twenty times, IMC doesn't bet on the first: it uses more context, compares candidates and shows the uncertainty before touching the document.
How far it goes
- IMC automates the location and much of the mechanical work, but it doesn't turn a doubtful correspondence into a false certainty.
- The PDF and the source can differ in text, format or structure: when there isn't enough evidence, the workspace shows the problem and the final decision is yours.
- This journey is the way for tagged source documents and formats without a native route, and also an alternative when the native route isn't available.
Your files
Your PDF and your source document are uploaded over a secure connection and processed on a server. The process is kept for 30 days, with its files and its results, so you can continue it, and you can delete it earlier whenever you want. How we handle your files.
